OUR APPROACH

As part of the wonderful uniqueness of Temple Sinai, we welcome and seamlessly integrate anyone and everyone who shares our mission.  Just how deeply, wholly, and unconditionally this characteristic is woven into our temple’s cultural fabric should not go unappreciated.  Not so long ago our present practices would have been nothing less than scandalous.

The virtual improbability of our evolution as a people has left us Jews with the gift/curse of a strong and enduring tribal sentiment.  Just a few decades ago intermarriage, for example, was assumed to be the kiss of death to Jewish continuity, and intermarried couples rarely found a welcome mat outside the synagogue door.  And despite the traditional prohibition of spotlighting such distinctions, even ones who committed to Judaism by their own choosing were referred to apprehensively or condescendingly.

With all its historical flaws and fictions, the “ghetto mentality” of Jewish tribalism has faded considerably.  In its place stands the far more positive and enriching practice of diverse and multi-cultural inclusiveness, by which we open our arms to embrace all into our Jewish community to participate.  Indeed, we are welcoming to the varieties of religious upbringing, marital status, family constellation, and orientation.
